Remembering our Creative & Fertile Potential Within. Uplifting, Clarifying & Healing.
Often described as liquid sunshine, Calendula is healing, uplifting, cleansing and affirming. With a natural affinity for the pelvic bowl and sacrum, this essence can connect us to our fertile and creative potential, and particularly to the Womb. It brings movement and clarity, potentiating our creative center with the dynamic, masculine forces of Yang energy, ensuring the Yin void within has the container it needs to work its magic.
Calendula is a quintessential Solar herb, and radiates warmth and joy from every single petal out into the world. If we were to use allopathic language, we could refer to Calendula as an anti-depressant, but it doesn’t truly capture the Archetypal essence of this plant. Calendula can lift us out of the dark by reminding us of that which is good, warm, and full of life, reigniting optimism and hope. As a lymphatic, Calendula cleanses stuck or sticky fluids, clearing the way for new and improved processes to take place. When taken as a flower essence, it does just this but with a focus on the emotional plane.
Calendula is also a Vulnerary plant - a deep acting healer of wounded, scarred tissue. It is a formidable, cheering ally for working with trauma, lighting the way back to our solar centre, allowing our vitality to rise up, back into life and balance. A bringer of joy.
In the Tarot, Calendula resonates to the archetypal frequencies found in the Six of Cups and Two of Pentacles, and shares the creative optimism and generative potential of the Page of Wands. It can be an antidote to the despair and hopelessness found in the Five of Pentacles. In ritual, Calendula is a key herb of the Sun, and could be called upon for solar prayers, petitions and spells. It is also in alignment with early spring, and could be called upon in celebration of the rising of energy and the life force of the world at this time.
Calendula can be called upon to:
reconnect with our creative potential, and the fertility inherent within the pelvic bowl and womb
heal old scars and tissues held from trauma either in our lives, or inherited from our family lineage
awaken joy, optimism and cheer, and encourage us to emerge from dark places into the warmth and light
connect with archetypal solar principles of healing, radiance, joy and hope
explore the resonant narratives within the Tarots Six of Cups, Two of Pentacles and Page of Wands, while acting as a balm for Five of Pentacles moments
